I don’t know if you remember The Prisoner series on tv during the 1960s? It starred Patrick McGoohan as former British Intelligence Agent no 6 and was aired between 1967 and 1968. This series was shot in the delightful Welsh village of Portmeirion, which was designed and built by Sir Clough William-Ellis between 1925 and 1975.
Mr A and I had the pleasure of visiting the village last week. It was a beautifully sunny day and a very enjoyable experience. The buildings are of architectural importance and it has been suggested that the design was based on the fishing village of Portofino on the Italian Riviera. There most certainly is a very strong Italian influence.
There are pleasant wooded walks, lots of cafés and the odd gift shop. You can even stay there as there is a hotel and various cottages. If you haven’t been, I recommend it for a day out, and if you have been, I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.
Until next week…
With love
